About This Program

The Community Resilience Hub is a flagship initiative designed to provide a safe, inclusive, and multi-purpose space where children, youth, and the wider community can learn, connect, and thrive. The Hub will serve as a centre for community-led development by bringing together programs that promote food security, education, skills development, mental wellbeing, youth empowerment, and climate resilience under one roof.
The facility will host the Chakula Mtaani Community Kitchen, providing a dignified space where vulnerable children and families can share nutritious meals. It will also offer a community meeting and training space, an ICT and digital learning hub, a library and study area, and a talent development centre where young people can nurture their creativity, leadership, and life skills in a safe environment.
SSIM is currently in the process of constructing this safe multi-purpose facility to benefit the entire community. Once completed, the Hub will strengthen community connection, provide opportunities for learning and innovation, and improve access to essential services for children and young people.
Additional funding is urgently needed to complete the construction of the Community Resilience Hub and make these services fully accessible to the people of Mathare.

Current Needs: Community Resilience Hub

As the SSIM Community Resilience Hub continues to take shape, we are seeking support to complete the construction of the facility, including the first floor slab, roofing, plumbing, electrical installation, flooring, windows, doors, and interior finishing. Additional support is needed to equip the Hub with ICT equipment, library resources, furniture, a modern community kitchen powered by Upishi Safi Briquettes, training materials, and talent development equipment. These investments will enable the Hub to provide a safe, inclusive, and sustainable space where children, youth, and the wider community can access education, digital skills, nutritious meals, mentorship, mental health support, and livelihood opportunities, strengthening resilience and improving lives across Mathare. Completion of the whole structure will require approximately US$45,000.00.
