In Mathare, where the scars of floods, fires, and demolitions remain fresh, mental health is rarely spoken about openly. Yet it is often the silent wound carried by many residents.
SSIM was born in 2017 when our founder Calvins Moda began mobilizing youth in Mathare. The April 2024 floods became our turning point — destroying homes and livelihoods, but also opening our eyes to the deeper crisis: trauma, silence, and disconnection.
Today we run urban farms, community kitchens, support groups, and skills programs — not as separate projects, but as one connected practice of collective healing.
