About This Program

The Jijue Program

The Jijue Program—meaning “Know Yourself” in Swahili is a flagship youth mentorship and psychosocial support initiative by Swift Slums Integrators Mathare (SSIM Foundation). Operating year-round in Mathare Valley, Nairobi, the program creates safe, structured, and confidential spaces where adolescents aged 12–22 can explore their identities, build emotional resilience, develop life skills, and grow into confident community leaders.

Through peer mentorship, dialogue forums, focus group discussions, and life skills sessions, Jijue addresses the root causes of school unrest, substance use, and adolescent vulnerability, placing young people’s voices at the centre of every intervention. The program activates during every school break period, ensuring that no adolescent in Mathare faces an unsupervised holiday without guidance and support.

Know Yourself. Save Your Future.
