Who We Are
SSIM is a community-based organisation in Mathare, Nairobi, established by community members and youth who came together in 2024 following the demolitions and displacement experienced within the settlement
We believe that communities are best placed to identify their challenges and develop practical solutions that improve quality of life — promoting resilience, dignity, and sustainable development.
A resilient, empowered Mathare where every person lives with dignity, has access to opportunity, and shapes a peaceful, prosperous future.
To empower vulnerable communities through community-led initiatives that promote food security, mental well-being, youth empowerment, environmental sustainability, resilience building, and socio-economic development.
What We Stand For
The principles that guide every programme, partnership, and decision we make.
Communities lead and own their own development journey.
Transparent and honest in all our work and reporting.
Every voice matters — especially the most marginalised.
Treating every individual with honour and compassion.
Creative, lasting solutions built for the long term.
Stronger outcomes through strategic alliances.
Building the capacity to thrive despite adversity.
Addressing root causes of inequality in our community.
What We Do
Transforming lives through targeted, community-led programmes in Mathare.
Your contribution helps us feed children, empower youth, and build a resilient Mathare. Every shilling counts.
Looking Ahead
Our work is growing. Here's what we're focused on over the next two years — and how your support helps us get there.
Finish construction and equip the Hub so adolescents have a year-round space for skills training, mentorship, and income-generating activities.
Expand from prototype to full production capacity, creating steady employment for at least 15 young people in our first full year of operation.
Transform riparian land into a dedicated safe space where support groups can meet, children can play, and residents can find peace.

SSIM is one of the most impactful grassroots organisations we have partnered with. Their dedication is inspiring.
